On Friday Narendra Modi opened Seva Teerth, a new administrative block in New Delhi that has become the new location of the Prime Minister office (PMO), the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and Cabinet Secretariat, all housed in the same building.
The new facility, as an official statement made by the Centre, is a significant move towards reinforcing the administrative governance system in India. The government indicated that the complex is an indication of the vision of the Prime Minister of developing a modern, efficient, accessible and citizen-focused governance ecosystem. Through merging most of the important decision making organs into one integrated area, the new building is likely to improve coordination, minimize communication, and increase the overall administrative efficiency.
In the past, the Prime Ministers office, National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat used to be based in various locations in the national capital. The authorities observed that such physical separation tended to demand extra coordination activities and logistics preparations. Seva Teerth was formed to overcome these complexities by centralizing the essential executive operations that will allow the organization to make decisions in a shorter period and more efficiently coordinate activities between various departments.
The high level government officials and dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony. The complex has been done with modern infrastructure and better security systems and with modern working spaces as per the current governing requirements.
The governmental sources called Seva Teerth to be a mark of institutional reform and administrative integration that highlights the changing governance structure in India and its focus on efficiency, transparency and responsive service delivery.
