New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has expressed serious concern over the increasing number of missing persons in Delhi. The court has sought detailed views from the Central Government, Delhi Government and Delhi Police on this issue. During the hearing, the division bench of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia also asked whether any petition related to this issue is pending in the Supreme Court. The court has asked the concerned parties to provide clear information in this regard. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for February 18, when the concerned parties will file their report and reply.

The NGO “Freedom Reclaimed” has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court regarding the rising number of missing persons in Delhi. The petition claims that the number of missing persons in the capital is rapidly increasing and the situation has now reached an unprecedented crisis. According to the petition, more than 800 people were reported missing in the first 15 days of the first month of 2026 alone. The petitioner states that this figure is extremely worrying and raises questions about the functioning of the administrative system.

The petitioner made serious allegations against the Delhi Police.

A public interest litigation filed in the Delhi High Court has raised serious questions about the police’s functioning in the capital’s rising number of missing persons cases. The petition argues that alleged laxity in the investigation and prevention mechanisms could fuel activities like organized crime and human trafficking.
