Pakistan have successfully shut the speculation regarding a possible pull out of the 2026 T20 World Cup by officializing their squad in the tournament on Sunday. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the 15-member team in a media conference where white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, director of High Performance and national selector Aqib Javed, and T20I team captain Salman Ali Agha were present.
The confirmation confirms that Pakistan is entirely dedicated to the international event, and also the start of a new trend by the selectors as there are several changes made to the squad that participated in the Asia Cup last September. Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr, who are fast bowlers, have not been included as well as Hasan Ali, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, and Sufiyan Muqeem, and that is a significant reshuffle.
Salman Ali Agha, the captain of the Pakistan team that got to the Asia Cup finals have been retained to head the World Cup campaign. Several members of the key players have retained their positions as well, such as Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Saim Ayub and pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi giving the team continuity and balance.
The biggest argument of them all is the fact that Babar Azam has made a comeback to the T20 squad following his exclusion in the Asia Cup team. His inclusion gives a boost to the batting team of Pakistan before the star event. But Mohammad Rizwan has not been included in the World Cup team and this has shocked several fans and analysts.
Having experience and blood of youth, Pakistan will now contemplate the final preparations as they seek to give a good performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
