A significant breakthrough has been made by the security forces in an anti-Naxal operation in the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh where the forces were led to recover a huge consignment of weapons, ammunition and explosives that were secretly planted by the Maoists in forested regions. The district police E-30 special unit carried out the joint operation with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

The officials said the recovery was achieved based on the certain intelligence during the interrogation of surrendered Naxals. On the information, the security agents mounted organized search missions at several suspected hides. In the course of intensive combing of the forests in three sensitive areas, Piparchhedi and Kamarbhoudi and the Kukrar jungle of the Mainpur area, the forces discovered an underground dump of substantial amount of the lethal material.

Some of the things found were a rifle which was, previously, stolen by some one, and a home-made pistol. The cache contained also 31 loads of 12-bore ammunition, 43 detonators that were applied to explosive devices, and plenty of other cartridges and objects that were used daily. The weapons and explosives were buried so that officials could not notice them, and it was meant to be used in future attacks.

According to the seniors police officials, the successful recovery has thwarted a big plot by the Naxals who seemingly were planning a big violent episode in the area. The fact that such a large number of explosives is present means that the threat is serious.

After the operation, the security forces have increased search and area domination operations in the nearby forest areas to stop any more Naxal activity. Officials promised that anti-Naxal activities in the district will be pursued with more vigilance to provide safety to the local people.
