Bhopal.  A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken over the investigation into the high-profile case of banned meat (beef) at the Municipal Corporation-run Jinsi Slaughterhouse in Bhopal. Police have seized the case diary and the slaughterhouse’s DVR, while a thorough examination of CCTV footage is underway.

The SIT has begun a fresh investigation into the entire case. Slaughterhouse employees, packaging personnel, and other suspects have been placed on radar. If necessary, the main accused, Aslam Qureshi, alias Aslam Chamda, may be remanded for questioning. The investigation is also closely examining technical, forensic, and documentary evidence. The investigating agency anticipates that new names may emerge and the number of accused may increase.

On January 8th, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation sealed the BMC slaughterhouse in Jinsi. This action was taken after the FSL report of a consignment of meat seized on December 17th confirmed the presence of prohibited meat (beef). This consignment contained approximately 26.5 tons of meat, which was being smuggled abroad as buffalo meat.

The main accused, Aslam Qureshi, and the container driver, Shoaib, have already been arrested and sent to jail. Furthermore, departmental action has been initiated against several Bhopal Municipal Corporation officials and employees, with more than 12 people, including a veterinary doctor, suspended. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is attempting to get to the root of the entire racket, which may also involve an international meat export network. Formed on the instructions of the Police Commissioner, the SIT is now investigating the entire slaughterhouse chain—from animal procurement to packaging and transportation.
