New Delhi: Dense fog and temperature drops to 3.2 degrees Celsius as winter continues to hit North India. As the temperature in the national capital reaches to 2.9 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh cold wave warning for Delhi, NCR, and north India, and orange alert for January 12 and 13. During this period, dense fog, cold waves, and extremely cold nights are likely to continue, which may affect normal life as well as road and rail traffic. Due to the severe cold, people have been advised to take extra precautions.
As per the weather bulletin for Monday, January 12, the IMD has predicted a cold wave over Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, dense fog and cold wave conditions are also expected in some pockets of Rajasthan, Bihar and northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and Nagaland.
Sunday night was the coldest night of this season in Delhi-NCR. The minimum temperature in Ayanagar area of the capital was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius, which was the lowest since January 15, 2024. During the last 24 hours, the weather remained clear due to sunshine during the day, but as the night fell, the cold intensified.
According to the Meteorological Department, on January 12, the minimum temperature may further drop to around 2 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to be around 18 degrees Celsius. During this time, the sky will remain cloudy and the effect of cold wave will continue, due to which there is little possibility of getting relief from the cold.
Ayanagar was the coldest area in Delhi on Sunday, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Palam weather station recorded the lowest minimum temperature in 13 years at 3.0 degrees Celsius. According to the data of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature at Safdarjung Observatory, the main weather station of Delhi, was recorded at 4.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 degrees below the average for this season. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature was 18.8 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees Celsius below normal.
