Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) deputy chief minister and leader Ajit Pawar on Sunday said that the two factions within the party will formally contest the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections, the first civic body to see the two factions of the same party reunite after the break-up.
In the announcement of the alliance, Pawar though did not give the formula of the share of seats between the NCP and the NCP (Pawar faction), although nomination deadline is close by and the other parties are keeping a close eye on the NCP strategy. As the nomination deadline began to end, Pawar nevertheless admitted that there was a waiting game with regard to the release of candidates as he mentioned that although the Opposition was waiting to know the nominations made by the NCP, his party was also keeping a check on the candidates of other formations.
It was a powerful political statement Pawar made publicly to talk of the new unity of the Pawar family and the party. With such civic elections at hand, NCP and NCP (SP) are on the same track. In that regard the family has started getting back together, he said, a resumption of contact after months of political separation.
Speaking to party workers at a campaign rally at Talawade, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pawar sounded an optimistic tune in the reminiscence of his many years-long association with the industrial township. You have supported me every time I have been here. I have never been disappointed, and as he advised the party workers to be on guard in the run up to the polls.
Coming out, Pawar aimed at the Opposition and indicated the growth record of NCP in Pimpri-Chinchwad, stating that the party had been instrumental in the growth of the city. It is here that development has been shown to be done. The people who drove Pimpri-Chinchwad into debt should now be put in the background, he said.
