DELHI WEATHER: With the arrival of the New Year, Delhi NCR has been completely engulfed by severe cold, icy winds, and fog. Severe pollution levels have further complicated life. The peak of winter continues in North India. Dense fog, intense cold, and pollution are simultaneously impacting life in Delhi NCR. The year 2026 will begin with severe cold, fog, and icy winds in Delhi.
According to the IMD, the cold will intensify from January 3rd, while the effects of snowfall in the mountains may be felt in the plains. Currently, light fog and cold winds are prevailing in Delhi NCR, while the temperature remains stable. According to the IMD, this change could directly impact New Year’s celebrations and planning. Cold winds are expected to blow at a speed of around 10 kilometers per hour in Delhi NCR until January 2nd. Light fog may be observed in the morning, but very dense fog is not expected.
Flights Delayed
Delhi recorded “very poor” air quality early Sunday morning as parts of the national capital woke up to dense fog and cold wave-like conditions. More than 150 flights have been delayed at Delhi’s IGI airport. In an advisory issued by Delhi Airport onX, it said that passengers must check with the airlines the schedule of their flight before coming for the airport.
Delhi’s Air Quality
Delhi’s AQI was on the brink of breaching the “very poor” category, Noida recorded “severe” air quality on Sunday, with an AQI of 415.
According to data from the Sameer app, developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s AQI stood at 391 as of 6:05 am on Sunday.
Of the 39 active stations out of a total of 40, a total of 20 stations recorded “severe” air quality. These included Anand Vihar (445), Chandni Chowk (415), Jahangirpuri (430), Shadipur (443) and Wazirpur (443).
