The district administration has launched a major crackdown on irregularities in coal transportation linked to NCL coal mines, seizing 18 coal-laden trucks during a joint operation by the RTO flying squad and the Mining Department. Officials said the action was taken after inspections revealed that the trucks were operating without valid documents, while several vehicles were found carrying incorrect or mismatched registration numbers.
According to officials, the seized trucks were involved in the illegal transportation of coal extracted from NCL mines. During the inspection, it was found that the vehicles neither possessed valid transit permits nor had proper registration details, indicating serious violations of transportation and mining regulations. Illegal coal movement not only breaches established norms but also causes significant financial losses to the government.
The administration stated that such violations would not be tolerated and that strict and continuous action is being taken against those flouting the rules. The operation is part of an intensified drive to curb coal theft and ensure transparency in the transportation process.
Concerns over monitoring mechanisms have grown following a recent incident near the Mudwani Dam, where a truck carrying coal from the NCL Jayant mine met with an accident. Subsequent checks revealed that the vehicle was also operating without a valid transit permit. Such cases have raised serious questions about oversight and enforcement in coal transportation.
Singrauli, one of the country’s major coal-mining hubs, contributes significantly to government revenue. However, repeated instances of illegal transportation have sparked demands for stricter surveillance and accountability. BJP worker Vinod Singh emphasized the need for firm action against irregularities to protect public resources and prevent revenue losses.
District Mining Officer Akanksha Patel confirmed that serious discrepancies were found in the documents during the inspections. She added that action is being taken strictly in accordance with the rules and that similar enforcement drives will continue in the future to ensure compliance, transparency, and lawful coal transportation across the district.
