A high-profile criminal with the intention of terrorising the populace by targeting the police uniform has been arrested in a major success by Shahdol police. A long time before he was eventually arrested by the police, the accused had been on the run after committing a fatal stabbing of a police constable while carrying out her duty of immersing the Durga.
The incident can be traced back to the 2 nd of October, when Constable Jayprakash Shiram, who was on duty at Dhanpuri police station, was on duty during Durga Visarjan before Panchmukhi Temple. In the incident, the accused, Santbeer Rajak, came to the scene and started abusing the on-duty constable by using foul language. On the protest of the constable, the accused stabbed him with a knife and would have killed him, but the constable Jayprakash was seriously wounded. The unanticipated assault brought about panic and mayhem in the location.
After the incident, a case was reported at the Dhanpuri police station on the complaint of a constable, and an investigation was launched. Nonetheless, the accused escaped and continued running despite the consistent efforts of the police to track him down.
Credible information was later received by the police that the accused Santbeer Rajak alias Chhotu, who is a 23-year-old son of Jhuri Rajak alias Deendayal Rajak, a resident of the FCI godown in Nadan Colony, Shahdol, had gone to the district hospital to carry out some work. Police, on the tip-off, acted promptly and went to the district hospital where they arrested him.
In the process of arrest, the knife, which was used to commit the crime, was also found in the possession of the accused. The accused was subsequently taken to court after being taken through legal formalities and was sent to jail.
The police officials disclosed that Santbeer Rajak is a registered history-sheeter of Kotwali police station, and he is a person with a number of criminal cases filed against him. The arrest has provided relief to the local residents and confidence to the police to act against criminals.
