Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday urged the United Nations to punish Russia for its invasion, calling for a special tribunal and compensation fund and for Moscow to be stripped of its veto.

“A crime has been committed against Ukraine and we demand just punishment,” said Zelenskyy in a pre recorded address to the UN. At the meet, European Union foreign ministers agreed to prepare new sanctions on Russia and increase weapons’ deliveries to Kyiv

According to people in the know, Ukraine’s Defence Dept has seized dozens of military tanks left by fleeing Russian soldiers. The seizure is said to have added crucial weaponary to the arsenal after it endured heavy losses of both manpower and machine fighting the battle for nearly seven months now.

Meanwhile, Russian security forces detained more than 1,300 people on Wednesday at protests denouncing mobilisation, a rights group said, hours after President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia’s first military draft since World War Two. As per local media reports 502 protestors were detained in Moscow and 524 in St Petersburg, second largest city in Russia. One way flight prices out of Russia surged and were selling fast as Putin called for 300,000 reservists.
