Indian Nurse Nimisha Priya Case: The Yemen Government has canceled the death sentence of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya. This decision was taken in a high-level meeting in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen. The office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar gave this information late on Monday night. The statement said that Nimisha Priya’s death sentence, which was earlier postponed, has now been completely canceled. However, Foreign Ministry officials have not yet confirmed this.
Nimisha Priya (37) was convicted of murdering a Yemeni national in June 2018. She was to be executed on July 16. However, earlier on July 15, Nimisha’s execution was temporarily deferred.

Actually, the case of Nimisha Priya has been in the international headlines since the year 2018. Nimisha is accused of murdering her business partner and then dismembering the body. She was convicted of murder in March 2018 and was sentenced to death by a Yemeni court in 2020.
Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar and Yemen’s famous Sufi scholar Sheikh Habib Umar bin Hafiz held talks on this issue on July 15. This also included a judge of the Supreme Court of Yemen and the brother of the deceased. Sheikh Habib of Yemen was persuaded by Mufti Musliyar for talks. This was also the first time that a close member of the deceased’s family agreed to the talks. This conversation took place under Sharia law. It gives the family of the deceased the legal right to forgive the culprit without any condition or in exchange for blood money.
For the unversed, Nimisha Priya, a 34-year-old nurse from Kerala, originally hails from Palakkad district. Nimisha went to Yemen in 2008 in search of a job. She belongs to a Christian family. In Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, she met a local citizen, Talal Abdo Mahdi, with whom she started a clinic in partnership. After some time, their relationship broke down.
According to media reports, Mehdi started harassing Nimisha and started calling himself her husband in public. Not only this, he also confiscated Nimisha’s passport so that she could not return to India.
