World: UN Secretary-general Antonio Guterres criticised the widely unfair global distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
In a virtual meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Guterres made these remarks under the surveillance of British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab. He noted that only 10 countries have inoculated 75% of all vaccines, while more than 130 haven’t yet received a single dose.
He counselled the UN members to support the COVAX Facility, and join the framework run by the WHO and other bodies to mediate fair distribution of COVID-19 Vaccines.
He tweeted, “Progress on COVID-19 vaccinations has been wildly uneven and unfair. The world urgently needs a Global Vaccination Plan to bring together all those with the required power, expertise and production capacities. I am ready to mobilize the full @UN System in support of this effort”.
He demanded a global vaccination plan to ensure equal distribution of COVID Vaccine worldwide.
During the meeting, Guterres said “The world urgently needs a global vaccination plan to bring together all those with the required power, scientific expertise and production and financial capacities.” He believes the G20 is well placed to establish an emergency task force to prepare a global vaccination plan and coordinate its capitalization and execution.
Furthermore, Antony Blinken has asserted USD 200 million dollars payment to WHO.
