Washington: The White House on Wednesday issued a statement saying that it will start distributing monkey pox vaccines across the country. The US Department of Health and Human Service will immediately dispatch 56000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine to all the areas with high transmission.

According to news reports, an additional 240000 doses will be distributed over the next few weeks as well. Further, the White House on Tuesday also stated that a combined 1.6 million additional doses would become available over the coming months.

The cities with the highest number of monkeypox cases include New York, California, Illinois and Florida along with the capital Washington DC. The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention issued the latest counts in these areas.

The United States reported its first-ever monkey pox case on May 18 this year and the number has spiked to 306 in a span of just more than one month. After the deadly Pandemic costing lives of lakhs of people in the USA, monkey pox has posed another challenge for the authorities.
