Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reiterated his belief that the US will support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s ongoing invasion, emphasizing that peace will not come as a gift but must be achieved through strength and resilience. Speaking in a 21-minute New Year video address, Zelenskyy highlighted the unwavering commitment of Ukraine to secure its sovereignty while expressing optimism about the United States’ role in this mission.

Zelenskyy referenced conversations with U.S. leaders, including outgoing President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, underscoring their shared understanding that ending Russia’s aggression is vital for achieving peace. He described the conflict as “a full-scale aggression by a deranged state against a civilized one,” stressing that Ukraine and its allies, led by the U.S., possess the strength to compel Russia into a just resolution.

In his address, Zelenskyy also reflected on Ukraine’s military achievements over the past year, including operations in Russia’s Kursk region and advancements in drone technology. He affirmed that Ukraine’s ability to secure peace depends on sustained efforts to strengthen its military and diplomatic standing.

The United States remains the largest military supporter of Ukraine among Western nations since the February 2022 invasion. While concerns have been raised about potential shifts in U.S. policy under Trump, Zelenskyy expressed hope for continued bipartisan support to ensure Ukraine’s security and NATO aspirations.

Zelenskyy concluded his address by urging Ukrainians to persist in their efforts, stating, “Every day in the coming year, I and all of us must fight so that Ukraine can be strong enough.” He reaffirmed that only a strong Ukraine can earn respect on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.
