WASHINGTON: In view of the insurgent conditions in Ukraine; the US will announce new military aid for the war-struck nation on Friday. A package of roughly $400 million comprising majorly of ammunition would be released, said an official familiar with the package.
The package, the sources said on Thursday, is expected to contain more Guided Multiple Launch Rockets (GMLRS) for HIMARS launchers, ammunition for the Bradley Fighting Vehicles, as well as armored vehicle launched bridges. The release of aid is said to be a keynote of discussion between the Prez and the chancellor as they meet Friday.
The equipment being funded to Ukraiene would be using the PDA or Presidential Drawdown Authority. Under PDA the president can authorize the transfer of articles and services from U.S. stocks without congressional approval in response to an emergency.
In response to questions on potential sanctions against China, White House spokesperson John Kirby said— “I certainly would expect in the context of talking about what’s going on in Ukraine that the issue of a third party support to Russia could come up.”
US ever since the so-called ‘special military operation’ launched by the Kremlin in Ukraine has been aiding Zelensky’s Military with ammunition. It has pledged more than $30 billion in security assistance to Kyiv that includes artillery, missiles, small arms, armored vehicles, radar systems, drones, body armor, millions of rounds of ammunition, and more.
