WASHINGTON: A US Journalist asked to cover the storm has gone viral on the internet. Taking to Twitter Mark Woodley, a sports journalist uploaded a video of his blizzard coverage in which he is seen braving the situation on the roadside.
” I normally do sports. Everything is cancelled here for the next couple of days. So, what better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up, go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold, and tell other people not to do the same?” he says.
As the blizzard deepend, temperatures worsened claiming as many as 62 lives across the nations especially Buffallo. In Buffalo, the dead were found in cars, homes, and snowbanks. The rest of the United States was also reeling, with at least an additional two dozen storm deaths reported elsewhere around the country and power outages in communities from Maine to Washington state. More bodies are to be found as the snow melts.
More than 4,000 homes and businesses were still without power late Tuesday morning. Some people perished while shovelling snow, others died when emergency crews could not respond in time to medical crises. Poloncarz, a Democrat, called the blizzard “the worst storm probably in our lifetime,” even for an area known for heavy snow.
Thousands of flights were cancelled across cities. Southwest Airlines, on Tuesday cancelled more than 4,000 flights, accounting for more than 90 per cent of all US airline cancellations. The airline said it would operate roughly a third of daily flights for the next several days. It further announced to reimburse customers for travel-related costs.
