Washington: US Secretary Antony Blinken tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the White House Correspondent’s Dinner and other related events over the weekend, presenting mild symptoms said the State Department on Wednesday.

Spokesman Ned Price said Blinken tested positive in an OPCR test on Wednesday afternoon. Price said Blinken is fully vaccinated and is experiencing only mild symptoms.

The top US diplomat who is fully vaccinated and boosted will isolate at home and maintain a’ virtual work schedule’. A statement from the state Department read- that Secretary of State Blinken “has not seen President Biden in person for several days, and the President is not considered a close contact according to guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).”

“In accordance with the CDC guidelines and in consultation with the Department’s Bureau of Medical Services, the Secretary will isolate at home and maintain a virtual work schedule,” the statement said, adding that Blinken “looks forward to returning to the Department and resuming his full duties and travels as soon as possible.”

US Prez and Blinken along with several other top diplomats attended the gathering. However, the two have noe seen each other in person from several days.
