The US has sanctioned eight Indian nationals and various Indian based firms as part of a wider crackdown on organizations which it claims to be aiding the Iranian trade in energy. The U.S. State Department and the Department of the Treasury have targeted over 50 individuals, firms, and vessels in several nations over their activities in the export of Iranian petroleum and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The State Department made the announcement of the sanction on approximately 40 people, organizations, and ships with the aim of limiting the access of the Iran regime to the funds which could be used to carry out destabilizing operations. At the same time, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Treasury Department was included in the list of Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) and Blocked Persons, with more than 50 new names being included in the list. Placement on this list implies that they will not be allowed to do business with U.S. persons, and can also limit their entry into the United States.
Some of the permitted persons include Niti Unmesh Bhatt, who was associated with the Indisol Marketing Private Limited that allegedly imported approximately USD 74 million worth of Iranian petrochemical products in the period between January and December 2024, of a previously sanctioned company.
In 2024-2025, another company, Chemovick Private Limited, and an individual, Piyush Maganlal Javiya were sanctioned based on the importation into the country of over USD 7 million in Iranian-origin petrochemicals.
The three individuals in the Kasat family, Kamla Kanayalal Kasat, Kunal Kanayalal Kasat, and Poonam Kunal Kasat, and their company Haresh Petrochem Private Limited were mentioned as having imported some USD 10 million worth of Iranian petroleum products in a number of sources during the year between January 2024 and February 2025.
Iyappan Raja, another Indian national, who owns Evie Lines Inc. in the Marshall Islands was also sanctioned together with his company. Since April 2025, their Panama-flagged ship, SAPPHIRE GAS, is said to have delivered Iranian LPG worth more than a million barrels to China.
