A proposal spearheaded by Congressman Shri Thanedar, a lawmaker, in collaboration with a group of US legislators has been introduced in the House of Representatives. The proposal seeks to designate India’s Independence Day, which falls on August 15th, as a National Day of Celebration for the Two Democracies in the World. This initiative reflects the shared belief that the strong alliance between the United States and India built on values will continue to advance global democracy and foster peace, stability and prosperity for all nations.

The proposal was co-sponsored by Congressmen Buddy Carter and Brad Sharman. Emerged as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modis Official State Visit to the United States on June 22nd. This visit further solidified a level of trust and understanding between both countries based on interests and shared commitments to principles such as freedom, democracy, pluralism, the rule of law and human rights.

The proposal highlights the contributions made by Americans with heritage in various spheres of public life within the United States. These individuals serve as government officials, military personnel and law enforcement officers who diligently uphold the values enshrined in the US Constitution. Their presence greatly enriches our nation’s diversity.

Furthermore this proposal underscores the significance of celebrating alongside the people as it reiterates our commitment, to foundations upon which both nations were established.

It emphasizes the importance of the values that connect the United States and India fostering togetherness and collaboration on a worldwide scale.
