The relations between the United States and Iran have been straining as Washington keeps strengthening its troops in the Middle East. The American troops are training the possibility of a long-term military intervention against Tehran which can take several weeks, according to a report published and quoted by two US officials, should President Donald Trump authorise it.

The report is against a backdrop of increased rhetoric in the White House. In his speech to journalists, Trump expressed impatience with lengthy diplomatic talks with Iran, in which a problem will be solved once and for all. He condemned Tehran to hold decades of talks with no substantial results and that substantial military assets have been involved in the region already.

Trump characterized Iran as a hard country to negotiate with yet again, he would like to have a negotiated solution where possible. Nevertheless, he ensured that the United States is willing to take other action should diplomacy fail. He said we would need it in case we do not strike a deal, in terms of the further military deployments.

The US President also reported that another aircraft carrier strike group would be soon deployed to the Middle East with the movement of the USS Gerald R. Ford which is considered to be one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world. The move highlights the desire by Washington to send a message of strength because of the growing uncertainty in the region.

Analysts caution that any overt conflict the two countries engage in would bring forth a lot of instability in Middle East, and it would have far-reaching geo-political and economic impacts.
