CALIFORNIA: Eight people died and many were left injured in separate shooting incidents reported in three US cities on Tuesday. The most recent of them was reported from the Californian community of Half Moon Bay where four died and 3 others suffered life threatening injuries. Police said that a 67-year-old Chunli Zhao has been identified as the accused and taken into custody.
representative of California state said that the killings took place in separate shootings on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay, a city about 30 miles south of San Francisco. The attacks came in less than 48 hours after a gunman opened fire at a Chinese New Year dance at an event in Los Angeles and killed 11.
In yet another incident, Nine more including two students died in three incidents in the US, a media agency reported. In Des Moines, Iowa, two students and three iindividuals were injured at an educational mentorship program for at-risk youth. The founder of Starts Right Here- an organization that conducted the program is said to be critical.
This takes the number of mass shootings to 38 and it has only been 24 days into the new year.
In 2022 alone, there were an estimated 44,000 gun-related deaths in the United States, which includes murder cases, accidents and self-defence. Moreover, there were 648 mass shootings last year, 21 of which involved five or more fatalities
