On Friday the US Embassy in Jerusalem declared that it has certified the voluntary leave of non-emergency US government workers and their relatives in Israel because of the rise in security issues. The department of state approved the decision on February 27, 2026, and it gives staffs who are eligible to leave the country at their own free will.

On its official page, the embassy urged those who would like to leave to take that into account as long as the flights of commercial airlines are running. Nevertheless, the mission did not give clear information on the type of the safety risk that led to the move. The step does not go far as an ordered evacuation, as in the case of some staff of the US Embassy in Beirut.

Its embassy also revised its travel advisory and advised Americans to revisit their travel plans to Israel and the West Bank because of the terrorism and civil strife. It highly discouraged travel to Gaza, northern Israel, and those along the Egyptian border but it stated that the Taba crossing is open.

The statement alerted that terrorist organizations and individuals can conduct attacks with minimal or no warning and may attack these areas of public places like transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls and government centers. It also warned against the fact that the growing tension in the region would disrupt flights.

It has been developed when the US-Iran tensions are rising with Washington beefing its military presence in the Middle East and the negotiating talks on the nuclear programme in Iran are yet to reach a conclusion.
