WASHINGTON: U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that starting from tomorrow, April 13, at 10 a.m. ET, all Iranian ports will be subject to full-scale naval blockade. The order, posted on the military command’s X account, reflects the growing tensions in the Middle East region as the highly anticipated peace talks proved to be unsuccessful.
As per the order, the naval blockade “shall be strictly enforced impartially against vessels of all nations.” Meanwhile, while the freedom of movement shall be ensured for all ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, any maritime vessel involved with Iran is bound to face restriction measures.
Islamabad Peace Talks End Without Success
It came as little surprise that after 21 hours of intense negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, neither side would agree to reach a compromise regarding Iran’s nuclear program. US Vice President JD Vance reported that both sides remained divided on the issue.
Speaking at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday evening, President Donald Trump struck a defiant tone regarding the diplomatic breakdown:
“I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, I’m fine. Tehran is in a very bad shape at present.”
Economic and Military Consequences around the WorldThe news has already made waves in the world economy, with Brent crude oil rising by more than 8% to surpass $100 per barrel. The maritime community within the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz is urged to keep listening to the announcements on the airwaves and maintain communication with American military ships on frequency 16. Iranian authorities have termed the blockage “illegal,” with Iran’s Navy commander calling it “laughable.” But now that CENTCOM troops are ready to execute the order from the President, the Middle East region will witness its biggest maritime confrontation in years.
