Pakistan UNSC Demands: Pakistan has once again faced international disgrace. This time the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has snubbed the Shahbaz Sharif government of Pakistan by facing international disgrace. Actually, Pakistan, a temporary member of the UNSC, had demanded the chairmanship of four important committees related to terrorism. This demand was rejected by other member countries. Pakistan has been given only the chairmanship of the 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee and the vice-chairmanship of the 1373 Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC).
According to the report, due to Pakistan’s demands, consensus could not be reached in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This caused a delay of about five months in the division of UN committees. An official said, “This work should have been done by January 2025.
The rest of the members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) were not happy with Pakistan’s demands. They believed that Pakistan’s attitude was stubborn and unreasonable. If Pakistan questions India on terrorism, it may have to face a strong reaction from other countries. An official said that the five permanent members of the UNSC – China, France, Russia, UK and America – did not want to take the chairmanship of any committee, because they believe that these posts do not have much effect unless all the members agree.
