The BAPS Hindu Mandir, the inaugural traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East, is set for inauguration on February 14 in Abu Dhabi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi officiating the ceremony. Spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj, who will preside over the inauguration, received a warm welcome from Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance, upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi on Monday.

During the reception at the airport, Sheikh Nahayan expressed gratitude, stating, “Welcome to the UAE. Our nation is blessed with your presence. We are touched by your kindness and we feel your prayers.” In response, Mahant Swami Maharaj conveyed appreciation, noting, “We are touched by your love and respect. The leaders of the UAE are great, good, and large-hearted.”

Crafted from pink Rajasthan sandstone and white Italian marble, the BAPS Hindu Mandir was intricately carved in India and later assembled in the UAE. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, generously donated 13.5 acres of land for the temple’s construction during Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2015. Subsequently, in January 2019, the UAE Government allocated an additional 13.5 acres, totaling 27 acres of land gifted for the temple.

The foundation stone for the temple was laid by Prime Minister Modi in 2017, with its seven spires symbolizing each Emirate of the UAE. The temple complex is designed to include a visitor center, prayer halls, thematic gardens, learning areas, and more. Notably, the structure is equipped with 100 sensors in its foundation and other areas to monitor seismic activity, temperature changes, and other environmental factors.

The estimated construction cost of the BAPS Hindu Mandir is 400 million United Arab Emirates dirhams, reflecting the grandeur and significance of this historic endeavor. The temple’s inauguration marks a momentous occasion, further strengthening the cultural ties between India and the UAE while providing a sacred space for the Hindu community in the region.
