NEW DELHI: The Turkish embassy on Tuesday conducted an interfaith prayer in the national capital to pay tribute to the victims of the earthquakes that have wreaked havoc in the country. Ambassador First Sunel said -I am deeply touched that we organized or religious prayer today which included representatives of all major religions in India this is a very big moral support”.
When asked about relief material support requirements, he highlighted the need for tents, containers in blankets especially. ‘Containers are the most important in Turkey because of harsh weather conditions as the temperature there varies from -5 degrees to sometimes -10 degrees. I know they are big materials but we also need portable washrooms. However, we have also received donations from Indians he added.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded the Indian assistance and disaster relief teams that were deployed in quake-hit Turkiye and said that in the last few years India has strengthened its identity not just as a self-sufficient but selfless country.
A total of three NDRF teams were sent to the quake-affected country on February 7 following Prime Minister Modi’s directive to offer all possible assistance to that country.
The Indian Army’s medical team had also been deployed for providing extensive services to a large number of earthquake-hit people.
NDRF personnel returned home on Friday after rescuing over 30,000 people safely from the rubble in Turkey. NDRF jawans were warmly welcomed by top NDRF officials at the airstrip at Hindon Air Force.
