ISTANBUL: A fresh 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey on Sunday, almost a week after a devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale shook Turkey and Syria. The epicenter was near the southern city of Kahramanmaraş, one of the worst-hit cities.

As the rescuers continue search and rescue, to pull out more survivors from the rubble in Turkey and Syria as the death toll from last week’s earthquakes topped 33,000. The tremors have killed at least 29,605 people in Turkey as of Monday, and more than 3,500 in Syria. The death toll in Syria has not been updated for two days. President Bashar Assad travels to quake-hit Aleppo to take stock of situation.

For the first time in 3 decades, Armenia-Turkey border gates were reopened or for earthquake aid to be received. The U.S. government on Sunday called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and all parties to immediately grant humanitarian access to all those in need across the country. Washington also urged Assad to follow through on a blanket authorization for humanitarian assistance deliveries.
