On Sunday, former U.S. president Donald Trump issued Iran a dire warning that any Iranian strike on the United States as part of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran would trigger the United States to unleash a display of American military power never seen before. Trump reminded that Washington was not involved in recent Israeli attacks on Iranian sites, even though Washington knew that it was going to happen in advance.
Going on his Truth Social account, Trump said, “In the event Iran attacks us in any way, shape or form, you will face the full fury and power of the American military like never before.” He confirmed again that the illegal war by Israel on Iran had nothing to do with the United States, whereas tension has been rampant in the Middle East due to such an offensive.
Early in the morning on Friday, the Israelis bombed the main Iranian nuclear and military facilities as part of the mission. Dozens of people were killed according to Iranian sources, including high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists, as a result of the strikes. Iran responded with a no-less deadly volley of rockets targeting the Israeli territory, which raised concerns about the development of a geopolitical conflict in the whole Middle East region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sworn to eliminate what he termed as every target of the ayatollah regime, implying a long-term military offensive. Trump, on the other hand, affirmed that the peace deal was not a closed case. He wrote: “We could straight away cut a deal between Iran and Israel, and stop this bloody conflict!!!”
Previously, Trump had cautioned Iran against fighting back but seeking a negotiation instead, hinting that should Tehran fail to strike a bargain, it would receive an even sterner blow from Israel.
As President Trump pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear program reached in 2015 under Barack Obama, the manoeuvre reignited sanctions and changed the United States’ policy in the Middle East significantly. His recent remarks indicate that he remains tough, and the U.S. is a world power that can retaliate should it be attacked directly.
