Former U.S. president Donald Trump has taken with a shrug what could have been a death threat delivered by a senior Iranian leader speaking with alarming accounts of assassination. Javad Larijani, who is one of the top advisors to the Supreme Leader of Iran, made this threat during a state TV program. Referring to the possibility of a drone attack, Larijani cautioned that Trump could not even feel secure in the sunbath on his property at Mar-a-Lago.
Larijani said, “Trump has somehow been able to do something that he could not afford to sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago. And lying down there with his belly toward the sun, the tiny drone may strike him in the belly button. It is just that easy.”
This recent threat is not long after a fatwa issued by Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, who declared Trump an enemy of God. The cleric continued and said that the cooperation or any help given to Trump by the Muslims or other Islamic nations will be haram (forbidden). He further said that Muslims struggling in resisting these enemies, despite their suffering, would be rewarded as warriors in the path of God.
The rhetoric did not bother Trump, though. he laughed at something the sunbathing remark had suggested, and replied, “It is a long time. I was perhaps seven or thereabouts. I don’t go that big into it.” Trump has also responded by saying, “When questioned on whether he considered the statement as a threat, Trump said, Yeah, I guess it is a threat. I really don’t know whether it is a threat or not, but it may be so.”
U.S. Secret Service highlighted that it has been on alert over the increase in the number of concerns. Although it does not leave a comment with regard to particular threats, a spokesperson said, “We live in a high and very dynamic threat environment, and the safety and security of the President and all of our protectees will always remain our utmost concern.”
This is not the first time that Trump has been targeted by Iranian officials.
