WASHINGTON D.C.: President Donald Trump today unveiled a new pathway to permanent residency for wealthy foreigners, launching a waitlist website for a proposed visa program requiring a $5 million investment in the United States. The government-backed website, trumpcard.gov, has officially gone live, allowing interested applicants to sign up to be notified when the program fully opens.

The initiative, dubbed the “Trump Card,” has been touted by Trump as a “higher level of sophistication” compared to the existing EB-5 investor visa program. While the EB-5 program typically requires investments of $800,000 to $1.05 million and mandates the creation of at least 10 American jobs, the new “Gold Card” reportedly removes the job creation requirement, aiming for a more streamlined route to residency.

The trumpcard.gov website features an image of a gold-colored card bearing Trump’s likeness, signature, and the $5,000,000 figure. Applicants are asked to provide basic details including their name, region, and email address, with options to apply as an individual or on behalf of a business. Trump has stated that the program aims to attract “wealthy people” who will contribute significantly to the US economy and tax base.

While the website is currently only accepting waitlist registrations, Trump has expressed confidence in the program’s ability to generate substantial revenue, even suggesting that proceeds could help pay down the national debt. He has also indicated that the “Gold Card” offers “green card privileges” and a “path to citizenship,” though not immediate naturalization.

The announcement of this new visa program has already sparked considerable discussion, particularly concerning its legal viability and comparison to existing immigration frameworks. Experts suggest that a major change in immigration policy of this nature would typically require Congressional approval, a step Trump has stated he is not seeking. The move is expected to appeal to high-net-worth individuals seeking a direct route to US residency, though the full details and regulatory hurdles remain to be clarified.
