Amid the ongoing tariff war with the US, a major statement has come out. US Ambassador Sergio Gor has said that US President Donald Trump considers Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a special friend. Gore said this after meeting PM Modi. Gore is considered a close associate of US President Donald Trump, and in such a situation, his statement holds great significance. Gore is in India on a six-day visit with Deputy Secretary of Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas to meet with senior Indian officials. The US has appointed Sergio Gor as its next ambassador to India. He has arrived in India and will officially assume office on Monday. Gore met with Prime Minister Modi on Saturday before taking charge of the US Embassy in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wrote on X about his meeting with Sergio Gor. PM Modi wrote that he is confident that the US Ambassador-designate’s tenure will further strengthen the India-US partnership. PM Modi wrote that he was delighted to welcome US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor to India. Gore, meanwhile, said he had an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Modi. He added that the two discussed bilateral issues, including defense, trade, and technology.
Sergio Gor said after the meeting with PM Modi, “We also discussed the importance of critical minerals. During this, we discussed bilateral issues including defense, trade, and technology.” He further said that the US values its relationship with India. “We held several meetings with Foreign Minister Jaishankar, NSA Doval, and Foreign Secretary Misri.”
Sergio Gor’s comments come amid tensions in India-US relations due to the Trump administration’s imposition of a 50 percent tariff on Indian imports. “I had a wonderful meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We discussed bilateral issues, including defense, trade, and technology. We also discussed the importance of critical minerals,” Gor said in an Xpost. Sergio Gor is on a six-day visit to New Delhi following his confirmation by the US Senate as US envoy to India.
