On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump denied that the US would ever embark on a military attack against Iran should the latter seek to reconstruct its nuclear plants. With respect to the question whether the United States could attack again in case Iran resumes its nuclear program, Trump has a brief reply: What a one-word answer: Sure. It was said at the NATO Summit that was held in The Hague, Netherlands.

In the meantime, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said over the weekend, Iranian nuclear facilities disappeared off the global map due to being hit by B-2 stealth bomber aircraft. Confirming the same development, Rubio claimed, on Saturday, that the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan facilities were ” wiped out ” by the United States as part of a coordinated assault that has continued to worsen the escalating Israel-Iran conflict.

But an early evaluation by the US intelligence organisations reached a more sober conclusion. According to analysts, the strikes in Iran have done a lot of harm to the facilities they were aimed at hitting, but they have only pushed the Iranian nuclear program back a few months, as opposed to destroying it completely. Upon being told of the intelligence findings, Trump rejected them, saying, They really do not know.

The strikes came after an Israeli pre-emptive series which was carried out on June 13, 2018, and aimed at several nuclear and military sites in Iran, as well as killing senior military officials in the Iranian government. Iran responded by launching missiles at Israeli military facilities and settlements because it does not admit to having nuclear weapons.

Trump came to the rescue after 12 days of mounting tensions to conclude a ceasefire between the two countries. As of Wednesday, the truce seemed to be working with some accusations of early breaches on both sides of the conflict, especially by Israel, according to Trump. Both Iran and Israel have pledged since then to respect the ceasefire, but only as long as it is a mutual ceasefire.

In another twist of events, Trump disclosed that Iran had alerted the US before launching its missiles to target a US base in Qatar, thus enabling the US troops to clear off and prevent any losses.
