Widespread destruction has been caused in Tennessee and Mississippi, and also in several other U.S. states, by intense tornadoes. Many homes, farms, and infrastructure have been damaged by the violent storms, leaving communities in a precarious state where they struggle to recover. On top of Missouri and Arkansas fully being hit yet again, with their homes destroyed and their farmlands ravaged, the southern region of Tinder for the fire was also reported hit. They were also powerful enough in Indiana to topple a radio tower.
Meteorologists say these represent the start of an extended extreme weather season, which includes days of relentless rainfall. The prolonged storms could see “generational” flooding in Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi, and the forecasters warned that it will be a dangerous threat to residents and infrastructure.
Nearly 14 million people from Ohio to Mississippi are under tornado watches and authorities are pleading with extreme caution as the storm system continues to pass steadily through the U.S. eastward. X social media posts confirm that direct tornado strikes have occurred in the Mississippi communities of Slayden, in Scott, and Sherman, in Kemp; and in the Tennessee communities of Grand Junction and Selmer, said to be part of Dyer County. At least downed power lines and many destroyed homes have been reported by residents in affected areas as vast debris was strewn all around neighborhoods.
Teams are on active duty to assess where the damage may be and supply aid for the situation. Warnings have been issued for the residents to keep a close watch and await further tornadoes and heavy rainfall in the coming days. People are being advised to stay indoors, monitor weather updates, and be prepared for possible evacuations, as the National Weather Service warned.
Authorities in the U.S. central and southern areas watch closely its impact as it continues its path and try as much as possible to limit casualties and render speedy help to people in need.
