An evening of violence culminated in the death of at least three people and injuries to eight others as a result of a deadly shooting at a popular dockside restaurant in Southport, North Carolina, on Saturday night. Police said that unidentified shooters fired at patrons at the American Fish Company, one of the busiest hangouts in Southport, from a passing boat. The accident happened at approximately 10 pm, and in the process, it caused panic and chaos among diners of the restaurant.

As per the early reports, the boat approached the restaurant, then opened fire and took off at top speed northward along the Intracoastal Waterway. The witnesses said the place was quite hectic as people scrambled to safety during the firing. Social media posts, which have not been confirmed to be true, have named the alleged shooter as Nigel Edge, a local resident, and some eyewitnesses said a dog was also on board the vessel when the shooting occurred.

The response of local authorities to the incident was fast. The City of Southport sent an alert warning its residents of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin and advised people to avoid the area. The alert said that there is an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is providing support to the Southport Police Department and several law enforcement agencies throughout the county. The police are still investigating the case and hunting down the perpetrators. A statement issued by the city said, “Keep all of those affected and also our first responders, in your thoughts and prayers.

According to a report by the local newspaper, State Port Pilot, the suspect and his boat had been floating in the water for almost an hour, and it was questionable how the shooting had been planned and what the motive could be. The police are still collecting evidence and questioning the witnesses in order to replicate the flow of events.
