A tragic incident took place in the Taplejung district of Nepal where a landslide killed a minimum of four members of a family and injured two others also of the family on Thursday night, according to a news agency. The disaster was initiated by continuing rainfall in Eastern Nepal, which occurred at a house at Phattanglung Rural Municipality-2, Tingdu, which is about 580 Kilometers away from Kathmandu by a landslide.
Speaking to a news agency, the Chairman of the municipality, Rajan Limbu, reported, “The landslide buried four of the family members as the house was swept away at night; the other two were injured in the disaster, incessant rains were reported yesterday, and as two houses were swept by a landslide since last night the rescue operation is still going on.
The region also witnessed flash floods, specifically on Wednesday, which brought considerable devastation to Taplejung. Some sections collapsed; among them was a wooden bridge washed away, and the Tamor River was temporarily closed due to rising floods. However, due to that heavy rain, the water level rose, which caused water to be on the houses, fully damaging three houses and destroying the crops worth millions in the nearby Sankhuwasabha District, as said by the news agency.
Bhalukhola River also flooded, and floods came unexpectedly, washing away a motorable bridge and affecting communication between several villages. This is due to massive monsoon clouds that arrived earlier than expected in the Himalayan Nation, as reported in the districts of Eastern Nepal, where heavy rainfall started on Monday. These monsoon clouds have not migrated and are heading only to the other parts of Nepal, which has been experiencing a heatwave situation.
The hilly region, the Tarai, and other districts have been basking in high heat for a couple of days now, and the temperature has reached up to 45 degrees Celsius. People in the Kathmandu Valley are being challenged by heat intensity with temperatures of more than 33 degrees Celsius. These circumstances can be explained by the monsoon rains and severe heat that began to affect the people of Nepal.
