Kyiv: In an early morning address on Wednesday, Ukraine President Zelensky said – peace talks with Russia to end the war were tough and sometimes confrontational- yet progressive slowly. It is being learnt that the West has decided to impose more sanctions on Russia amid the worsening humanitarian crisis. “As of today, there are about 1,00,000 people in the city in inhuman conditions, completely blockaded, without food, without water, without medicines, subject to constant shelling, constant bombardment,” he said.
Citing the rise in displaced people, the President’s office in Ukraine has launched a humanitarian aid website, to help out how to send and whom to address humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday two super-powerful bombs rocked the port city of Mariupol stranding more than 200,000 people. The massive attack came amidst fresh attempts made by the Ukrainian authorities to evacuate civilians from the besieged port city which has been undergoing relentless shelling for almost a month. The US reportedly airlifted 4 children in need of urgent, highly specialized treatment as they suffer from cancer whose treatment was disrupted by Russia’s aggression.
The two sides are currently holding peace talks remotely after several rounds of talks between delegations meeting in Belarus. According to the human rights watchdog- since Kremlin has launched the invasion around 117 children have died, 548 schools have been damaged.
At the NATO summit scheduled on Thursday, Ukraine President Zelensky will take part virtually to discuss the war with Russia.
