Taliban spokesperson hailed the exit of US Troops from Afghanistan on Tuesday. Zabihullah Mujahid said they are happy that US troops left as Afghanistan is now a “free and sovereign nation”. The Biden administration had given the deadline of Aug 31 to complete the evacuation process. Today, as the last US troops soldier left the country, the Taliban leaders literally rejoiced the move.

The tension in the war-torn country Afghanistan deepened majorly after the Taliban occupied Kabul on Aug 15. Since then, the evacuation process has been going on at large as the world’s most powerful forces came across to evacuate both Afghan nationals and their own countrymen from the Taliban-occupied Afghan province.

Zabihullah Mujahid spoke to reporters from the Hamid Karzai International Airport after the US troops left the war-torn country on Tuesday. “We do not have any doubt that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is a free and sovereign nation,” he said. He also added that the American troops “could not achieve their goals through the military operations” and now that they have left, the “victory” belongs to them all.

As the last five American cargo C-17 jets flew out of the country on Tuesday drawing a close to the evacuation process that started back on Aug 15 after the Taliban captured Kabul, the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken called it “end of military missions” in Kabul. He further stated that they have “suspended diplomatic presence in Kabul and transferred operations to Doha, Qatar”.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid said that they vow to “work on diplomatic relations with the West” with the help of Afghans who “will protect our freedom, independence, and Islamic values”. We have to wait to see how the Taliban operates sans the presence of the US troops.
