Taiwan: Amidst tension due to China’s military drill, reports have been making rounds indicating the recovery of the dead body of the deputy head of the Taiwan defence ministry’s research and development unit.
As per the national agency, the deputy head was found dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning. The report read- Ou Yang Li-hsing, deputy head of the military-owned National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, authorities added.
According to sources, Ou Yang was on a business trip to the southern county of Pingtung. Yang as per the agency reports had assumed the post early this year to supervise various missile production projects.
Meanwhile, the island nation has accused the Chinese army of stimulating an attack on its mainland, as the PLA continued to exercise its military drills which began after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) sent “multiple” warships and aircraft into the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
The ministry said on Friday had fired flares on Friday night to warn off seven drones flying over the Kinmen Islands just off China’s eastern coast, and to warn unidentified aircraft that was flying over its outlying Matsu Islands.
“Multiple PLA craft were detected around the Taiwan Strait, some have crossed the median line,” the ministry said on Twitter, referring to a demarcation line that runs down the Taiwan Strait and that Beijing does not recognise.
Strained relationships between Beijing and USA have severed after, the former nation called off several security deals on the calendar. Beijing claims self-ruled Taiwan as its own and has not ruled out the use of force to take control of the island.
