The Canadian arrested three Indian nationals due to the murder plot of the pro-Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was fatally shot in the last year around June. As the Canadian media reports, people with supposed affiliations to the network of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently serving his term in an Indian prison, were used to perpetrate these terror attacks.
The news body implied that the suspects arrested might be from an alleged hit squad that the Indian government had allegedly set up; however, such claims have been refuted several times by Indian officials. Two detainees, identified as Karan Brar and Kamalpreet Singh, and the third one, known as Karanpreet Singh, were reported to have entered Canada on temporary visas in the year 2021; not this, all three of them are said to be close acquaintances of Lawrence Bishnoi.
Of greater significance is the fact that NIA has later established links of the Bishnoi syndicate to such foreign-based pro-Khalistani proponents. Bishnoi is also involved in Sidhu Moose Wala’s stabbing incident in May 2022, which shows complete insignificance between Khalistani groups and Shahid Nijjar’s group as the reason for Nijjar’s murder.
The authorities confirmed three individuals involved with the murder investigation face criminal charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. As per Canadian police reports, three deaths said to relate to the accused, are being investigated by Canadian law enforcement teams.
Reports said all three detainees were 20-year-old Indian nationals who had lived in Edmonton. The Canadian authorities had been monitoring them since their time of identification six months into the coast.
Stories emerging from Canadian media state that the security apparatus in the country is funding interrogation of the roles of the Indian government played in the killing of Nijjar. In a statement dated September 2023, India’s External Minister, S Jaishankar, indicated this Indian government had definitely informed the Canadian government that this hideous deed, like the murder of Canadian citizen Hardeep Nijjar, was not an Indian policy.
