In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, at least 12 Pakistan Army personnel were killed in the attack when the suicide bomber rammed an explosive-loaded vehicle into the joint checkpost in the general area of Malikhel.
A spokesperson of the Pakistan Army through the Inter-Services Public Relations [ISPR] informed that the attack took place late Tuesday night at a security post taken up by both army soldiers and Frontier Constabulary forces.
In a statement, the ISPR stated that combining the terrorists’ bid to infiltrate the post was successfully repulsed by the troops. However, the explosion that was linked to suicide brought down part of the perimeter wall, thereby forcing considerable destruction on the other structures. Among the 12 martyred personnel, 10 were soldiers, and two were Frontier Constabulary personnel, all valorous sons of the soil as referred to by the ISPR.
During the exchange of firing, six militants were neutralized by security forces. About this, the hurt personnel received immediate treatment and were transported to a local hospital. An operation in this regard has been initiated to sanitise the area and clear out any remaining dangers to prevent the culprits behind this heinous act from causing further harm, said the ISPR.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, reportedly a TTP faction, has accepted responsibility for the attack. This incident brings out the revelation of the rising trend of terror-related activities in Pakistan but most especially in the north-western provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
The Pakistan Army once again gave a signal for the elimination of terrorism and the security of the country. The ISPR said that such acts of violence would not have any negative impact on the armed forces’ resolve to eliminate the menace of extremism in the country. It is unfortunate that this attack remains a usual signal of continuously occurring security threats throughout the fight against terrorism in Pakistan.
