Balochistan: A tragic and devastating incident took place in Balochistan province, Pakistan, where a suicide attack claimed the lives of 52 people and left over 50 others wounded. The attack targeted a gathering in the Mastung district on a Friday as people had gathered to honour the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
The explosion, described as “massive” by Mastung Assistant Commissioner Atta Ul Munim, occurred near a mosque where attendees were gathered for observances. Heartbreakingly among those who lost their lives was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Gashkori, who was on duty for a rally scheduled in the area.
According to reports quoting a police officer, the suicide bomber detonated himself close to the DSP’s vehicle. Despite the destruction caused by this incident, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. In fact, the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) issued a statement denying any involvement.
This unfortunate event marks the explosion that struck Mastung district in September. Earlier during that month, another blast occurred, causing injuries to individuals, including Hafiz Hamdullah, who’s an influential figure within Jamiat Ulema e Islam Fazl (JUI F).
These occurrences act as reminders of the security obstacles encountered in the area, highlighting the necessity for ongoing endeavours to safeguard the welfare and protection of its inhabitants.
