Pokrovsk: Russian missiles killed seven people and injured more than 80 others in the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk. The strikes hit apartment blocks and other buildings in the city’s downtown district.
Kyiv accused Moscow of targeting rescue workers, who rushed to the scene of the first strike. The second missile hit as they were working to help the injured and the dead.
“The Russians deliberately targeted rescuers who were helping the victims of the first strike,” said Donetsk Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko. “This is a war crime.”
The Russian Defense Ministry denied targeting rescue workers, saying that the missiles hit a military training center in Pokrovsk. However, Ukrainian officials said that there was no military training center in the area.
The strikes in Pokrovsk are the latest in a series of Russian attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. In recent weeks, Russian forces have also targeted a shopping mall in Kremenchuk, a theater in Mariupol, and a train station in Kramatorsk.
These attacks have drawn international condemnation. The United States has called for an immediate investigation into the strikes in Pokrovsk, and the European Union has condemned the “barbaric” attacks on civilians.
The strikes in Pokrovsk are a reminder of the human cost of the war in Ukraine. As the war drags on, more and more civilians are being killed and injured. The international community must do more to pressure Russia to end the war and to protect civilians.
