KYIV: Russia launched a series of missile and artillery attacks on Ukraine, the second pre-dawn attack in three days. Air raid sirens were sounded across the cities as multiple explosions were heard. Ukraine’s air-defense system destroyed 15 out of the 18 missiles launched Monday early said officials.
Kyiv’s regional administration wrote on the Telegram messaging app, “Air defences are at work”, media reported. It asked residents to remain indoors and maintain calm.”Keep calm! Stay in shelters until the air alarm goes off!” the administration said.
People took shelter in an underground metro system amidst the air raid alert. Accounts for casualties reported 1 death in Kherson and 25 injured in Dnipropetrovsk including 3 children. Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk military administration described it as a “tragic night and morning”. Partially controlled by Russia- a Ukrainian regional authority said Russia had carried out 39 shellings.
Air defense systems were activated to shield the Kyiv region. Kremlin is accused of launching missiles at other Ukrainian regions overnight including Dnipro, Mykola, and Lukashuk, the head of the Dnipro council said.
He added that the eastern city of Pavlohrad was struck twice overnight and an industrial settlement, 19 residential apartments, and 25 private buildings were among others that were hit.
