Moscow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia has become even more significant with Russia’s decision to release and facilitate the return of all Indian nationals working with the Russian Army. PM Modi who is in Moscow, raised the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a private dinner. PM Modi also tweets a glimpse of his meet with Russian President Putin.
If reports are to be believed, approximately 200 Indian nationals have been hired as security helpers by the Russian military.
At least two Indians have died fighting the Russia-Ukraine war from Russia’s side. Dozens of Indians stuck in the war zone claim that they were tricked into taking up fighting roles.
In a video that went viral in March showed men from Punjab and Haryana wearing Army uniforms claiming how they were tricked to fighting the war. The government of India strongly condemned the matter. Meanwhile, Indian probe agencies also carried out raids and busted a ring that managed human trafficking from India to Russia. During the raids, at least 35 Indians were sent by these firms from India to Russia, though no official statement has been issued on this so far.
Since the Ukraine-Russia war broke out, India has been pressurising Russia to ensure the safety and repatriation of Indians employed by the Russian Army. According to the ministry, immediate action is being taken on receiving every information about Indians stuck in the war zone.
