The press secretary of the Russian president has called the people of Russia to stop discussing the cause of the terrible helicopter accident of the Azerbaijani Airlines near Aktau in Kazakhstan. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov touched upon the importance of waiting for the official conclusions of an investigation of the event on Thursday. It happened on Wednesday, and thirty-eight passengers flew an Embraer EMBR3.SA commercial aircraft lost their lives in the crash. That plane had earlier changed its route to Kazakhstan after having to change its direction because of unfavourable weather back in Russia.
Many conspiracy theories were immediately triggered by the crash, with some claiming that Russian air defence shot down the drones themselves. However, all these allegations have been dismissed by Russia in a stand-stout manner. Kremlin’s spokesman Peskov stressed moderation and asked people not to make hasty conclusions until the investigation process is over. He also noted that many are prone to make assumptions before organizations give their reports on the issue.
The Kazakh authorities have positively identified thirty-eight bodies to be pulled from the crash site, and at least twenty-nine have been admitted to different hospitals within the country. Their extent of injuries remains unknown. The flight was expected to head for Makhachkala in Russia but had to be diverted to Aktau because of weather vagaries. In the early days, there were a lot of rumours that a bird strike has led to the crash, but some aviation professionals were sceptical. Viral videos taken at the crash site have made some people wonder whether it is possible that a missile strike or any other attack brought the plane down.
The airline, Azerbaijan Airlines, said that the plane underwent a technical check on 10 November and had no known technical problems on the day of the crash.
