An official in charge of Canadian law enforcement has made it clear that there should be increased collaboration between Canada and India. Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Mike Duheme, disclosed to reporters in Ottawa on Thursday that it is vital to establish a good rapport with India. He simply said it is vital to establish rapport with India, and the two nations have similar issues with respect to terrorism and other security threats. “We all want the same things. They are experiencing the terrorist acts in their country. There are these key players, and we would like to ensure that we work together and find them, as explained by Duheme,” according to the news.
Duheme refused to make comments on a continuing RCMP investigation of violent criminal activity in Canada, with alleged connections to India, saying, “The file is before the courts, so I will not comment upon it. It’s following its path.”
In September, National Security and Intelligence Advisor (NSIA) Nathalie G. Drouin was led there by Duheme on a visit to India. After the visit, Drouin reported that the visit developed avenues of communication on common issues and trade relations. She emphasised the fact that she had met with the National Security Adviser of India, Ajit Doval, in New Delhi on September 18 and said that it had been fruitful in establishing a channel of communication with the Indians in regards to respective concerns. We are both understanding and goal-oriented. The context of these words is the big-time case of the pro-Khalistan activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.
