The Government of India on Monday (21 April) announced a three-day state mourning in honour of his demise. The Home Ministry said in a statement, “Pope Francis died on 21 April. A three-day state mourning will be observed throughout India in his honour.
According to this, there will be two days of state mourning on April 22 (Tuesday) and April 23 (Wednesday), the statement said. Apart from this, there will be one day of state mourning on the day of the funeral. The statement said that during the period of state mourning, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings throughout India where the national flag is regularly hoisted. No official entertainment program will be organized during the period of mourning.

He said, “From a young age, he dedicated himself to realising the ideals of Lord Jesus Christ. He served the poor and the downtrodden with devotion. He instilled a sense of hope in the minds of those who were suffering.
