Warsaw: A Russian-made missile killed two people in the village of Przewodow, Poland. Although there are no conclusive evidence of who fired it, it has put Poland’s military on heightened readiness in a potentially major escalation of the war in Ukraine.
Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland, tweeted immediately after the missile hit Warsaw: “Let’s keep in mind that chaos is Russia’s weapon. Confusion, ferment, manipulation, disinformaiton-these are the weapons that Moscow has been using for decades”.
“There has been a decision to raise the state of readiness of some combat units and other uninformed services”, said a Poland military spokesperson, Piotr Muller. He further added that an emergency national security council meeting has also been scheduled.
US President Joe Biden spoke to its Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda. Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of Czech Republic of Predseda took to his twitter account to offer support to Poland. “If Poland confirms that the missiles also hit its territory, this will be a further escalation by Russia. We stand frimly behind out EU and NATO ally”.
Poland is protected by NATO’s commitment to collective defense. However, the response of alliance is likely to be heavily influenced by whether the incident was intentional or accidental. Moscow’s ambassador has summoned to provide “immediate detailed explanations”.
