A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi hauled the Trudeau government over coals for failure to rein in the pro-Khalistan extremists during the attack on Brampton temple, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has called out the ruling Canadian government for giving political space to extremist forces.
While PM Modi has asked the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law, the Canadian government to the contrary has been instigating the extremists by making unsubstantiated allegations against India and that too from no less than the Prime Minister of Canada.
Meanwhile, on Monday, a Canadian police officer was suspended after a video went viral on social media showing him participating in a pro-Khalistan protest outside a Hindu temple in Brampton, media reports said, quoting authorities.
The suspended Peel Regional Police officer, identified as Harinder Sohi, was caught on camera holding a Khalistan flag, while others in the protest chanted anti-India slogans, CBC News reported. He was not in police uniform. Sohi was a Sergeant of the Peel Regional Police.
Media Relations Officer Richard Chin emailed CBC News to say the police force is “aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel Police officer involved in a demonstration”.
